Pieces › The left hand

Both hands together

Melody on the right, bass on the left

You know the Ode to Joy melody (lesson 2) and its bass (lesson 6): all that’s left is to put them together. The bass always lands on the first beat, together with a melody note.

The secret: play very slowly, and let your left hand hold its note while your right hand moves on.

Tips

Ode to Joy with both hands

Right hand: the melody. Left hand: one whole note per measure (C or G).

Au clair de la lune with both hands

The left hand changes in the middle of some measures: C (5), then G (1).
